HE IS ALSO BROTHER OF QUEEN VICTORIA EUGENIE OF SPAIN.
HE IS ELDEST SON OF HRH PRINCESS BEATRICE OF BATTENBERG PRINCESS OF UNITED KINGDOM 9TH DAUGHTER OF QUEEN VICTORIA AND SISTER OF HRH PRINCESS ALICE OF HESSE PRINCESS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, AND SON OF HRH PRINCE HENRY MAURICE OF BATTENBERG SON OF GRAN DUC ALEXANDER OF HESSE AND OF HSH PRINCESS JULIA OF BATTENBERG.
Alexander Mountbatten, The 1st Marquess of Carisbrooke is also Earl of Berkhamstead, Viscount of Launceston, Hon.Col. of the Isle of Wight Vols. and Knight of the Order of St.John of Jerusalem, has Grand Cross of Orders of Charles III of Spain, Leopold of Belgium with swords, and Alexander Nevsky of Russia, and 4th class orders of St. Vladimir of Russia with sword, Naval Merit of Spain, Order of the Nile, and Coix de Guerre, with palms of France.
Alexander was granted by Royal Warrant the style/title of His Royal Highness on 13th December 1886, relinquished at His Majesty's request, for himself, his issue and to those belonging the use of the styles, titles and designation 'Highness' and Prince/Princess and 'of Battenberg' in the Grand Duchy of Hesse or German Empire to him or to them belonging and assumed for himself and his issue and them belonging the name Mountbatten and also be used if a surname is required, by Royal Warrant 14th July 1917. He was created 1st Marquess of Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight, Earl of Berkhamstead in England, Viscount of Launceston in Cornwall.
Born Windsor Castle in England on 23rd November 1986 educated at Wellington College, Coll., F/Lt. R.A.F.V.R, served in World War II, was in Royal Navy 1902-08, appointed 2nd Lt. Gren. Guards 1911, Lieut.1913 and Captain 1915 ret. 1919, served in world I 1914 with his regt. and subsequently on the staff (despatches), was made K.C.V.O in 1910, G.C.V.O in 1911, G.C.B. 1927 and died 23rd February 1960 and he is buried in his Family burial place The Battenberg Chapel in St. Mildred's CE Parish in Whippingham
